Time-tested metal and ceramic braces for precise, predictable results.
About Traditional Braces at Bow River Dental
Time-tested metal or ceramic braces give precise, predictable tooth movement and are effective for complex cases. If you are looking for braces in Calgary, Bow River Dental offers both metal and ceramic options, with flexible payment plans available.
Braces are part of our Orthodontic Treatment services, and we welcome teens and adults.
What Are Traditional Braces?
Traditional braces use small brackets bonded to your teeth, joined by a thin archwire. The wire applies gentle, steady pressure that gradually moves your teeth into better positions. Because braces are fixed to your teeth, they work around the clock and give your dentist precise control over how each tooth moves.
Modern braces are smaller, lighter and more comfortable than they used to be. They are a proven way to correct crowding, gaps and bite problems, including cases that are too complex for clear aligners.

Types of Braces We Offer
- Metal braces. The classic, durable option. They are strong, reliable and effective for nearly every kind of case.
- Ceramic braces. Tooth-coloured or clear brackets that blend in with your teeth for a less noticeable look.
We explain the differences during your consultation so you can choose what suits your goals and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do braces cost in Calgary?
The cost depends on the type of braces and how complex your case is and how long it takes. We follow the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide and offer flexible payment plans, so treatment can fit your budget. Call 403-247-0999 for a personalized quote.
How long do you need to wear braces?
Treatment time depends on how complex your case is. Many patients wear braces for one to two years, while some need less or more time. You will visit every 4 to 6 weeks for adjustments, and we give you an estimate after your exam.
Do braces hurt?
Braces are not painful when they are placed, but your teeth may feel sore for a few days after they go on and after adjustments. Soft foods and an over-the-counter pain reliever usually help. The soreness fades as your mouth gets used to the pressure.
Can braces fix an underbite or other bite problems?
Braces can correct many bite problems, including overbites, underbites and crossbites, and they are a strong choice for complex cases. Some severe bite problems that involve the jaw may need additional treatment. We assess your bite and explain what is possible.
Are braces covered by insurance?
Some private plans include orthodontic benefits, often with a lifetime maximum, while the Canadian Dental Care Plan may not cover orthodontic treatment. Please check your plan. We offer flexible payment plans and will gladly provide the information you need for your insurer.
